ABOUT US

CURVE THE URGE is a sexual risk avoidance education program for minority youth. This sexual risk avoidance initiative is designed to teach youth strategies to help them voluntarily refrain from having sex and strengthen their focus on education and developmental goals, hopes and dreams.

Curve the Urge is sponsored by the Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and the Family & Youth Services Bureau.

PROGRAM FEATURES

  • Open to preteens and teens grades 6 -12.

  • Teaches youth the benefits of refraining from sexual activity which is the only sure way of preventing teenage pregnancy and contracting HIV and STDs.

  • Teaches teens how to reduce the pressure they may experience from peers in regards to sexual activity.

  • Free on- and off-site counseling.

  • Provides free HIV, STD and Social Service referrals.
