CURVE THE URGE is a FREE abstinence-only prevention program for African American youth. This sexual risk avoidance initiative is designed to teach youth strategies to help them voluntarily refrain from having sex and strengthen their focus on education and developmental goals, hopes and dreams.

Curve the Urge is sponsored by the Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and the Family & Youth Services Bureau.

PROGRAM FEATURES

  • Open to preteens and teens between the ages of 12 and 17, including parent participation workshops.

  • Teaches youth the benefits of abstinence as the only sure way of preventing teenage pregnancy and contracting HIV and STDs.

  • Teaches youth how to resist the pressure they may experience from peers in regards to sexual activity.

  • Free on- and off-site counseling services.

  • Free HIV and STD testing.
